“Write the story that you were always afraid to tell. I swear to you that there is magic in it, and if you show yourself naked for me, I'll be naked for you. It will be our covenant" -Dorothy Allison

Dorothy Allison is a survivor, an author, a female rights activist, a teacher and a mother. In all of her works, Allison utilizes her hardships to exploit the sexual and physical abuse that occurs within families. Although she was exposed to many of the hardhips her characters endure, Allison does not pity herself for her difficult upbringing. She is a strong woman who turned to literature to overcome her own past (Hudson 23). She continues to write in hopes of inspiring other struggling people to conquer the hardships of life. Allison utilizes her creativity to provide readers with vivid stories to inform her audience and keep them searching for more of her work.
